Bouncers (In Yer Space)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

John Godber’s well-known and arguably most famous work, ‘Bouncers’, finds itself directed by Colin Snell with the same level of energy, wit and brawling attitude that the original script boasts. Dave Dawson, Wayne Kelsall, Michael Wheeler and Carl Parker switch from guards on the door to lads on the pull and women on the tease, all hilariously observed and performed to show us those familiar weekend raves that often end in drunken predictability. Intercut with serious monologues on underage drinking and social routine, ‘Bouncers’ finds its soul and depth, marrying the nature of its characters to the plot. Developing and exploring its comment on society, not only is this play unquestionably topical in today’s binge culture, it is also utterly absorbing.
