Be Prepared (Matthew Bellwood)

A teller of private mythologies, Bellwood brings general significance to the insignificant moments of a life. A nice idea, sharing what he calls “dreams” to discover that others have the same dreams. Curiously, the show seems more written than performed: usage of “do not” and “cannot” doesn’t suit the oral tradition. Despite this, Bellwood performs naturally and engagingly, never boring the audience with self-indulgence; reflections upon imagination, judgements and death involve us all. Thought-provoking but not terribly profound, polished but not exciting, suggestive but not evocative, this show is a wonderfully understated glimpse into the everyday in us all. But then, you can just get that from having a chat down the pub, can’t you?
