An Audience With Shurl (Shurl Productions)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

Join Shurl in her dressing room for an hour of vivid storytelling and music, centred around her upbringing in Wales and her hero-worship of Shirley Bassey. Broadly speaking, ‘An Audience With Shurl’ traces her journey from her early years with her psychic grandmother; her adolescence, including being forced to give up her baby for adoption at fifteen; and her troubled adulthood following Shirley Bassey around the world. For a one-woman performance, it is very impressive how completely she manages to hold your attention and her tales of childhood are often very moving and funny; once into adulthood, however, this show loses its way and ends pretty inconclusively. Still, with atmospheric accompanying music, Shurl offers a lyrical and warm story.
