52 Man Pickup (Desiree Burch)
By Clemmie Hill | Published on Tuesday 30 August 2011
I suppose the 18+ rating on this show should have been warning enough. However, even if warned, nothing could have prepared me for this one-woman show, self-proclaimed as “free therapy”. What followed was an hour and a half of Desiree Burch reeling off, with disturbing honesty, fifty-two of her past sexual experiences in such vivid detail that we were left squirming in our seats. With the aid of various games which helped to make the 8-strong audience feel decidedly awkward, and what can only be described as numerous feminist rants, Burch left us shocked as she laughed her way off the stage. Believe me when I say this show is not for the faint-hearted; I’m now considering therapy myself.
Hill Street Theatre, 8 – 29 Aug (not 10, 17, 24), 10.30pm (12.00am), £6.00 – £8.00, fpp262.
