La Putyka (Cirk La Putyka)
By Rohanne Udall | Published on Sunday 28 August 2011
A pub revel like no other. It’s closing time at La Putyka, ‘little run down pub’ in Czech, and the landlord is demanding we leave. Easily won round to one last beer (in the front row you get one) from here it’s a raucous ride as the ‘regulars’ fall blindly drunk into action. Held together by the pub premise, this fusion of astounding acrobatics, raunchy dances and reckless clowning is simply everything a contemporary circus should be. It’s gaudy, sleazy and outrageously loveable. Backing it all up is a quirky and highly skilled on-stage band. Forceful and accomplished performances from all leave the audience is breathless and gawping. That last drink probably is too extravagant, but you just can’t say no, drink up.
Zoo Southside, 5 – 27 Aug (not 10, 14, 15, 21, 22), 8.35pm (9.35pm), £13.00, fpp173.
