Tonhalle Orchestra
By Maryam Ansari | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
This performance took the audience on a symphonic journey through time, by including compositions from the 18th, 19th and 21st centuries. It took off with an original piece entitled ‘Cold Heat’ by Swedish composer, Anders Hillborg, which, due to its sinister notes, created an unsettling mood. Although not the most conventional way to start off, the piece was, nevertheless, inventive and thought provoking. The orchestra then continued onto a perhaps more welcome classical route, recreating renowned compositions by Mozart and Dvorak. The last piece especially witnessed the breaking of the hushed tonality that had been sustained throughout the entire performance, giving way to a booming and spectacular finale, which encountered keen applause and stamping of feet from the audience.
Usher Hall, 29 Aug, 7.30pm (9.20pm), £12.00 – £42.00, eifpp38.
