This Here Is Cindy Douglas… (Cindy Douglas Quartet)
By Eleanor Pender | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Cindy Douglas’ husky voice, playing around with harmonies and rhythm with her talented trio of musicians behind her, is the perfect way to just sit and appreciate the moment. She clearly loves to perform, and her voice is a real instrument and is used as such. The mood moves between slow blues to jazzed up classics, with fantastic piano solos from Iain Mathieson filling song refrains and Bill Kemp on drums throwing himself into the performance, showing off his full range of rhythm skills. And along with Jen Clarke on double bass, the Cindy Douglas Quartet is a real taste of traditional jazz, and their reinterpretation of ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’ influenced by jazz piano certainly won the night.
The Jazz Bar, 18 – 21 Aug, 8.30pm (9.30pm), £6.00 – £8.00, fpp221.
