Lach’s Antihoot (Gilded Balloon)
By Julian Benson | Published on Saturday 27 August 2011
It’s important that nights like the Antihoot exist, acting as a creative space free of uncritical judgement. Your entry payment is a sort of contract, allowing you to play on stage for 8 minutes or two songs – whichever finishes first – but it also means that you agree not to heckle or talk through anyone else’s set. In practice people did heckle and talk through the sets but not to a ridiculous degree. In my night I saw four bad comedians but one awesome musician. If £10 guarantees I’ll see something good that I haven’t seen before then I think it’s worth the cost. Lach himself is a great compere, playing songs, telling jokes, but never stealing the show.
