Frankly: I Was A Fool For Love (Richard Shelton In Association With Fringe Management)
By Julian Benson | Published on Sunday 28 August 2011
The year is 1959 and John F Kennedy needs your vote. He’s drafted in the chairman of the board, Frank Sinatra, who is back for one night only to persuade you. So, before heading down to Vegas with the newly formed Rat Pack, Sinatra is here to entertain us with songs, stories and scandals. He’s haunted by the apparition of his ex-wife Ava Gardner, and thus the show is broken up by Frank’s memories. Richard Shelton’s portrayal of a man lost in love induces sympathy and his voice fills the room, carrying the emotion from the relived memories into the songs, giving them a poignant relevance. Closing on ‘My Way’ – an anachronistic request from the audience – was perfect for the evening.
Gilded Balloon Teviot, 3 – 28 Aug (not 15, 22), 5.30pm (6.30pm), £8.00 – £12.00, fpp205.
