Dave Flynn – Master Guitarist (Dave Flynn)
By Andrew Latimer | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
If folksperimentation was a genre, this immersive blend of classical composition and Irish jig arrangement would fall right in its place. Inviting guests on the fiddle and flute, Flynn finger-picks tranquil and humble tunes from Donegal, before blasting out Irish Ragas in homage to Ravi Shankar, a feature which demonstrates the musical diversity underpinning this performance. Though some variety is lost to a little repetition, Flynn’s chilled-out, modest style of playing unwinds and draws its audience, creating this bubble which we can only become lost in. Perhaps most impressive of all are Flynn’s orchestral and song-writing skills; he pens seductive and warming tracks which are performed with a level of class unparalleled in a lot of folk/classical crossovers.
