Cool Breeze Tour (Out Of Abingdon)
By Dave Fargnoli | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Refreshingly unassuming, this Australian duo is evidently having a great time breezing through their set. Tina Fullerton grins irrepressibly from behind her double bass, while guitarist Warwick Hargreaves bops with abandon during every solo, both taking turns to sing in smoky, playful tones. For all their enthusiasm, they keep things at a low simmer; soft vocals, laid-back bass and cool grooves make for a languid mood perhaps best suited to closing-time in a hotel bar. Though capably performing standards and originals, they’re at their best playing unexpected contemporary covers, noticeably heating up on a sultry arrangement of Portishead’s ‘Glory Box’. “Always feels great to sing that one,” Fullerton acknowledges afterwards, and you’ll have no trouble believing her.
The Jazz Bar, 15 – 22 Aug, times vary, £5.00, fpp201.
