Alastair Savage: The Scottish Fiddle (Alastair Savage)
By Ellie Willis | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
In his second performance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Alastair Savage is joined by two other impeccable musicians to create a beautiful ensemble of Celtic sound that highlights the Scottish fiddle. Alastair Savage is a master of the instrument, both in practice and in theory; at each interval, he explains the historical significance of the fiddle in Scotland and how it has evolved along the centuries. Passionate and enthusiastic, Savage plays with expertise, carrying the audience atop his high notes through the history of the Scottish fiddle. The venue was particularly suited for this performance, as the Canongate Kirk provided perfect acoustics and a fittingly historical atmosphere. This is a perfect show for tourists and Scots alike.
Canongate Kirk, 7 & 15 Aug, 8.00pm (9.00pm), £8.00 – £10.00, fpp192.
