100 Years Of Musical Theatre (Bohemians Light Opera Company)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

Some may not realise how long musical theatre has been enchanting audiences, but the Bohemians put on quite a reminder with their two-hour show, as the company speeds through over a decade of musical entertainment. From numbers originally composed by Cole Porter and Gershwin to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Schwartz, the content of the programme ranges from early twentieth-century music hall style to Rogers and Hammerstein’s firm family favourite ‘The Sound Of Music’. Guest conductor Neil Metcalfe gives a short history of each song with background details of the composer and Broadway début. Given my childhood exposure to musicals, the show certainly brought back memories, and pointed out some holes in my musical education. An audience-pleasing and toe-tapping choral performance.

St Andrew’s and St George’s West, 25 – 26 Aug, 7.30pm (9.30pm), £10.00, fpp214.
