A View From Two Volcanoes – Arthur’s Seat And Mount Kilimanjaro (Pamoja Art)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

This exhibition is not just beautiful but awe-inspiring, showing the working relationship between communities in Scotland and Tanzania. Pamoja is “a community interest company encouraging and supporting creativity in both the UK and Tanzania”: paintings and poems done by children from both countries centre around the inactive volcanoes’ effect on their respective cities. The space and the project seek to promote the concept of ‘the global village’ and overcome cultural stereotypes through art and communication with evening conversations, performances and cabaret. All the work, done by adults and children from both nations, show the distance and connection of their respective cultures. The volcanoes and the people are the same, but this exhibition shows how we are so stunningly different.

St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral, 13 – 21 Aug, 10.00am (6.00pm), free, fpp191.
