Festival Eucharists (St Mary’s Cathedral)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

“Peace be with you” – the awkward moment in church when you shake people’s hands was given some comic relief as my confused friend said, “Pleased to meet you too” to several people. Surprisingly, this was not the only amusing moment in this service as the preacher delivered some jokes too, and his sermon raised some interesting points about scripture and related them appropriately to modern day life. With a good choir and organist this mass was made bearable to even this religious sceptic, even if the hymns were rather tedious. The stunning building is worthy of a visit in itself, and the service was probably as good as it gets. I would visit again if I were actually Catholic.
