Café Voices (Scottish Storytelling Centre)

This absolutely charming showcase of literary and musical talent from around the country was a delight to watch. In a relaxed, intimate environment, performers took to the stage to sing, tell stories or recite their own poetry, some of which was exquisite. Anyone was welcome to perform – even I was offered a go – and although this meant the quality varied, on the whole, every act was impressive. It offered the chance for young poets to perform to an audience, many for the first time. Highlights included a touching poem, freshly written about the Fringe, that enchanted the audience. It’s just a shame it takes an international festival to allow for such an event – these should be commonplace across the country.
