They Came With Outer Script – Free (Asterisk Theatre)
By Eleanor Pender | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Improvisation either works or fails miserably – in this case it is, happily, the former. This space-themed sketch show is the bizarre mixed with the entertaining. The story is set in space – in Neo-Italy of the far-off future – with accents, adverts, time travel, and incredibly random details which vary from robotic dinosaurs to murderous imps to lumpy Italian factory owners. This spontaneous creation does not suffer from awkward silence; if anything, the audience is over enthusiastic when offering suggestions. Mike, the narrator, steers the ever-increasingly complicated plot to a successful conclusion, even finding time to include a dinosaur montage. Overall, it’s an entertaining show where space themes are gloriously revamped, and the ludicrous abounds. Steven Spielberg should take notes.
Laughing Horse at The Three Sisters, 14 – 19 Aug, 4.30pm (5.30pm), free, fpp157.
