The Big Value Comedy Show – Middle (Just The Tonic)
By Danielle Grogan | Published on Thursday 18 August 2011
‘Big Value’ depends on your definition of ‘value’: value for money, or Tesco blue and white stripy value? This show covered both, really. Compere Eric Lampaert is an eccentric, hilarious comedian that just about managed to smooth over the show in between acts, particularly in the aftermath of Caroline Mabey’s uncomfortable set during which became glaringly obvious that she was heavily intoxicated; the only thing she seemed to remember was that she was in a cave, and to call her audience “c**ts”. Romesh Ranganathan’s comic skill was all down to dramatic pauses – sometimes a little too lengthy – whilst headliner John Robins was inventive and quirky with a memorably long-winded anecdote involving trains. My advice, however, is to see Lampaert on his own at the Pleasance.
Just The Tonic at The Caves, 4 – 28 Aug (not 17), 7.30pm (8.40pm) £8.00 – £10.00, fpp49.
