Storytellers’ Club (Sarah Bennetto)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

Storytellers’ Club, a delightful evening of storytelling in a giant inflatable igloo, was very funny and pretty cool – pun not entirely intended. Every evening at Storytellers’ Club has a theme, and Friday evening’s ‘Festivals’ theme provided plenty of talk about Burning Man, Glastonbury and, of course, Edinburgh. The accomplished storytellers ranged in quality from fairly good to excellent, and I was thoroughly entertained. Phil Kaye, in particular, proved an unstoppable comic force when he spun a wonderful tale about avoiding police arrest by persuading Jim Jeffries to buy him a kebab. Audience members were also asked to provide their favourite Edinburgh festival story in no more than five words, aiding the mellow, intimate feel of the 90 minute show.

Pleasance Courtyard, dates vary, 10.00pm (11.30pm), £7.50 – £10.00, fpp156.
