Shappi Khorsandi – Me And My Brother In Our Pants, Holding Hands (Off The Kerb Productions)
By Lisa McNally | Published on Tuesday 30 August 2011
Shappi Khorsandi is what many dismissively call “a Radio 4 comedian” – a term which alludes, I think, to the fact that she’s got a middle class air and that her routine doesn’t depend on the word ‘cunt’. Well, that and the fact that she’s actually been on Radio 4. None of these things are necessarily bad. I like ‘Radio 4 comedians’, and Khorsandi’s is a fine example of one. The show’s title describes the photo which prompts her to tell a string of anecdotes about herself and her brother. The personal nature of much of the material makes this large space feel intimate, as does the eager way in which she shares it with her audience. Radio 4 it may be, but it produces plenty of laughs, which is what really matters.
Pleasance Courtyard, 3 – 28 Aug, 7.50pm (8.50pm), £11.50 – £14.00, fpp150.
