Nicholas Parsons’ Happy Hour
By Nina Glencross | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
At 87 years old, Nicholas Parsons is a comedy veteran and, despite his age, he can still work his audience like a pro. In casual chat-show style, the main premise of the ‘Happy Hour’ is to invite different guests to talk about their shows, and other topics that Parsons brings up in their discussion. On this occasion, Parsons invited Paul Merton’s wife and co-‘Improv Chums’ star Suki Webster as well as rising Yorkshire comic Alun Cochrane on the stage for a chat, before the amazing Christine Bovill treated the audience to some songs from her sold-out show ‘Piaf’. Handing out free Smarties to “smart arse” audience members, Parsons was very funny, heart-warming and just a delight to watch.
Pleasance Courtyard, 5 – 20 Aug (not 9, 16), 5.10pm (6.20pm), £9.50 – £12.00, fpp126.
