ED2011 4/5 Reviews ED2011 Comedy Reviews
NewsRevue (NewsRevue)
By Leonie Sheridan | Published on Friday 26 August 2011
The demise of ‘The News Of The Screws’ is a gift to all topical comedy at the Fringe this year. However, just as the incessant coverage quickly became exhausting, ceaseless jokes about the Murdochs rapidly lose their funny. If you’re scared that you’re beginning to feel sorry for the evil trinity, see ‘NewsRevue’. Nobody lampoons like they do: they’re not dipping their toes nervously into the satirical pool; they’ve submerged themselves in it for more than 30 years. Of course, the show doesn’t have a chance to get tired, because its subject-matter is always changing. At their best punching upwards, the return of the toffs (thanks to Pippa’s bum) give them plenty to sing about.
Pleasance Courtyard, 3 – 28 Aug (not 16), 6.20pm (7.20pm), £11.00 – £15.00, fpp126.
