Mike Newall’s Get Better Box (Fluid Thinking)
By Julian Benson | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
It’s to be expected that stand-ups have an ego on them; many of them make money talking about themselves, thinking their life is particularly worth talking about. Newall’s is not a life worth talking about; his set is dull as it drags through his absolutely normal childhood and later life. His standard friends say standard things. What they say may be funny in the pub, but on the stage they’re just that: what a friend said in the pub. Why would you spend the money on a ticket to hear this when you could go to the pub with your own mates and make your own jokes, instead of listening to this drab man talk about his friends?
