Matt Tiller – Just Du-et (Lee Martin For Gag Reflex Management)
By Lisa Clarkson | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
So the title is a tease. At least, there is nothing ostensibly doubling in Matt Tiller’s solo show. I was expecting a double-act, a Lorraine Chase cabaret-jazz hands-hoe down, but no, just one man and his guitar. In the flesh, anyway: Bullingdon Club member George Osborne is the other ‘star’ of the show. He is the chip on Matt’s shoulder, a Tory bone to pick. Tiller’s state-funded education versus Osbourne’s rite-of-passage; as keeper of those state funds, their paths crossing via Oxford deserves some pondering and an hour isn’t long enough. A bigger screen, and perhaps a visual reminder of where we are in the plot would benefit. Preferably with shots of the “Fuck Yeah George Osbourne” website.
Just The Tonic at The Caves, 4 – 28 Aug, 7.35pm (8.35pm), £6.00 – £8.00, ffp116.
