Matt Rudge – We Could Be Heroes (Bound And Gagged Comedy by arrangement with Vivienne Clore)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

Accolades galore precede Matt Rudge’s Fringe show this year: BAFTA’s Breakthrough Talent nominee, TV Collective’s Best Talent winner, performer on last year’s AAA Stand-Up. Sounds good. Yet the nature of Rudge’s set is humble and contrite, weaving its way through the comic’s personal history from teachers and girls to dreams of being the next Rambo. With its set of old furniture, the living-room feel of this production generates a cosy warmth which guides the audience rather than grabbing their attentions. At times, the moseying pace lacks the energy and momentum Fringe comics tend to offer; if you’re after a relaxed showcase which strikes a friendship between spectator and performer, Rudge’s set is wonderfully satisfying.

Pleasance Courtyard, 3 – 29 (not 10, 17), 7.15pm (8.15pm), £9.50 – £12.00, fpp116.
