Markus Birdman: Dreaming (Markus Birdman / Red Comedy with The Stand Comedy Club)
By Michael Mackenzie | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Stood in front of an amazingly intricate doodle, with live but very background guitar music playing, this gig had the appearance of something special. Unfortunately, the rather dull stand-up act that followed had me examining every nook and cranny of the wall-hanging and listening intently to the ambient plucks of the guitar. At least Markus is courteous enough to provide us with alternative entertainment. For a show that promotes the idea of following one’s dreams, it is extraordinary that his comedy instead inspires apathy. Straining through tired subjects such as British politeness, couples arguing and the quirkiness of children, this is neither new nor exciting. If your dream is to see this show, I advise you not to follow it.
The Stand Comedy Club II, 4 – 28 Aug (not 15, 23), 9.20pm (10.20pm), £7.00 – £8.00, fpp114.
