John Robertson: Dragon Punch! – Free (John Robertson)
By Jennifer Ajderian | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
When John Robertson’s manic speech slows even for a moment, he gazes with intensity so grindingly grave that it makes us giggly – it’s amazing he has the energy to pull off this show as well as another solo hour-long effort. In a loosely linear plot, Robertson tells the story of a holiday he doesn’t celebrate and of not punching someone. But the narrative spirals with such tangential speed he has to snap himself back on course, making him all the more funny in the process. An obsession with 1980s video games and fine details make this a violently funny show, and a comedian so fantastically alive he must have sold his soul.
