ED2011 3/5 Reviews ED2011 Comedy Reviews
Fresh Faces At The Fringe (PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Katie Chapman | Published on Sunday 14 August 2011
In relation to comedy, the term ‘fresh’ can strike fear into the heart of an audience because of its connotations of nervous, inexperienced or delusional comics. However, despite the grating compère dictating proceedings in week one, and the fact that the comedians have to compete with the extensive background noise in the pop-up venue, this free showcase of talent is worth sampling. The line-up differs daily and offers variety in terms of both capability and style, meaning that while some of the comics on offer do undeniably need to hone their skills, there are some, such as Kate McCabe, who shine through and deliver strong material with aplomb. An unpredictable but economic way to see potential stars of future Fringes.
