Comedy Manifesto (PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Sunday 14 August 2011

Returning to Edinburgh for its fourth year, ‘Comedy Manifesto’ is beginning to look tired. It attempts to be a topical quiz similar to ‘Have I Got News For You’, yet the panel’s knowledge of current affairs was atrocious: the room turned cold as they proved unable to answer a single one of the posed questions. Instead, they coasted through the show on old material and easy stereotypes, relying on fall-back anti-American jokes a little too often. True, Andrew Bird and Lee Camp both seemed comparatively fresh next to their fellow panellists, but Jules Constant seemed to use the exact same answers he gave in last year’s show. If the comedians continue in this vein, there is nothing to reward a returning audience.

The Voodoo Rooms, 6 – 28 Aug (not 16), 3.45pm (4.45pm), free, fpp59.
