An Evening With Helen Lederer (Terry Finegan Presents An Evening With Helen Lederer)
By Julian Benson | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
It’s difficult to review a comedian who’s trying out new material, but, as Lederer was charging for this show, the general lack of polish seems a little disrespectful to her audience; that, and she overran. That said, from the off she had the audience on side with her bitter and cutting remarks about other celebrities – it was very much an hour of name and shame – though this is coupled with a great deal of self-congratulation, admittedly some of it ironic. It’s a step too far, too self-centred, when the audience is forced to watch clips of all the television programmes Lederer’s been in this past year. As a stage presence, she didn’t demonstrate the skill to carry the audience through her rambles.
