Through The Looking Glass (And What Alice Found There) (Traitor Theatre Company)

Few people like every aspect of the Alice tales. While their loose narrative doesn’t put off young children, they might become confused by characters who appeal to older generations; and while adults can understand the basics of the tales, they might be put off by the childish whimsy. This production tries to combat this. Using narration from Alice, it attempts to impose more structure without losing the necessary strangeness of the story. It is a good idea and a shame that this was really the most distinct thing about it among the enthusiastic performances and well-played baddie. However, it was good to see an Alice adaptation which knew about the source material; there is admirably unusual detail here.
