COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
The Panther’s Scream And Other Texas Tales (Texas Woman’s University)
Campfire songs are gently sung and played on acoustic guitars as we take our seats before being treated to a feast of folk tales from the old west. The talented cast of nine narrate and act out stories of cowboys and coyotes, bears and bobcats, often accompanied by more guitar playing and occasional shadow puppetry. The staging and costumes are very simple, leaving the ensemble to embody the various characters, who are often animals, through the art of performance alone; they do this masterfully. Some stories work better than others, but overall it’s a great way to ease yourself into the day. It may be marketed as a children’s show, but there’s something here for everyone.
