Whooooo’s Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf? (Act II Theatre Company)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

Children like reinterpreted fairy tales. They think it’s a new idea, the familiar material means accessible jokes, and the changes are enjoyably anarchic. This adaptation merges the wolves of ‘Red Riding Hood’, ‘The Three Pigs’ and ‘The Boy who Cried Wolf’ into an unlucky nice guy, narrating his perspective on the stories. There’s everything children’s theatre needs – audience participation, singing, funny costumes and free food. The few props are cleverly used, while the three-person cast is choreographed perfectly; all improvisation is delivered with practised ease. Parts lagged slightly, especially the song lyrics, varying between dull and confusing. It’s nothing more than an entertaining children’s show, but that’s all it needs to be.
