COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Crybabies: The Scaring (Francesca Moody Productions in association with Plosive Live)
Is there such a thing as ‘beyond surreal’ because this was scarily absurd? Crybabies have returned with a parody on the horror genre that sees a priest visit a hotel that has many secrets hidden within. The humour was insanely clever but silly, and the group kept subverting expectations at every turn in a most unpredictably surprising hour. The trio demonstrate their professionalism as entertainers, with everything well timed and well calculated in a story packed with twists, a gripping story and goofy characters. The stage and costume designs are impressive, and elevate this into a grand and ambitious production. It’s seriously spooky how good this show is.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 30 Aug.
