Caroline McEvoy: Train Man

The Train Man in question is Caroline McEvoy’s younger brother, who lives with autism, and she takes an amusing but tender look at autism through her interactions with him over the years. Proving herself to be a likeable performer right from the start, McEvoy obviously enjoys audience interaction and takes the time to connect well with the small Tuesday crowd. While there’s a sprinkling of her club set gags, particularly amusing on her home country of Northern Ireland, the show hangs together well as a coherent whole and McEvoy’s love and care for her younger sibling shines through no matter how hard hitting her jokes. It’s a show with a lot of heart, and although it’s advertised as a show about sibling rivalry it’s really more about sibling bonding.

Assembly Roxy, until 25 Aug.
