COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Captain Narwhal’s Pirates vs French Dinosaurs (Gatepost Theatre Company)
Captain Narwhal’s crew have robbed an orphanage of its treasure before losing it, barring one stray stowaway, to their “French” pirate rival, Captain Oui-oui (say it out loud… ). They resolve to get it back. Whilst the level of French dinosaur involvement is less than implied by the title, all the elements you’d want in a pirate play are present and perkily correct – arrr gags, songs, puns, and, of course, audience participation. I was honoured to be awarded the role of Captain Wobblebottom. That’s right, Gatepost Theatre Company: you shot the reviewer in the face with a water pistol. Three times. But my young co-reviewer was absolutely delighted about that so, eh, we’re cool. Fun start to the Fringe day.
theSpace @ Niddry Street, run ended.
