COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Bigfoot Ripped My Dog In Half I Saw It (Xhloe and Natasha, Soho Theatre and SoHo Playhouse)
Xhloe and Natasha are firm Fringe favourites, so much so that their Edinburgh run is already sold out. Perhaps their best show yet, it characteristically starts lightly enough, but turns darker as it unfolds. Grounded in commedia-inflected physical comedy, this fast-paced show requires great precision from all, including the entire technical crew. And it is not just clever clowning: there’s a story here, and not just about how readily communities may be tempted into superstition. More deeply, it’s about our irrational inclination tenaciously to cling to false beliefs, whilst on the other hand – and often at the same time – ignoring or suppressing greater causes for alarm. So this is clowning with a cause: funny but thought-provoking too.
Summerhall, until 30 Aug.
