COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Bebe Cave: CHRISTBRIDE (BIGHEAD Comedy)
Bebe Cave enters in darkness to a chorus of cheers. She justifies the audience’s anticipation with a wonderful, crazy show set in medieval times, where the young Bethilda Bigbum becomes a nun and marries Jesus Christ. She begins screaming as she’s burned at the stake, and the rest of the hour explains how she got there. The show is deliberately chaotic, but with chaos comes laughter. When things go wrong – and with a show this hectic and quick-fire, they’re bound to – it just provides more joyful moments. Cave is an outstanding performer, full of charisma, with an obvious talent for accents and characterisation. With ‘The Screen Test’ last year and now ‘Christbride’, she has fast become one of the Fringe’s must-see talents.
Pleasance Dome, until 24 Aug.
