Bail conditions force Susan Riddell to cancel Fringe show

Comedian Susan Riddell has had to cancel her Fringe show after being charged in connection with a protest at the Edinburgh base of defence company Leonardo UK. The conditions of her bail mean she cannot travel into Edinburgh for her Festival performances.
Riddell is one of three women charged over an incident in which a van was driven into the fence of Leonardo UK’s property. It was part of a campaign against Leonardo UK over allegations the company sells its laser targeting system to the Israeli military. For its part, Leonardo UK denies it sells equipment directly to Israel.
The comedian has been charged with malicious mischief, aggravated by having a “terrorist connection”. As a result of bail conditions, she has had to cancel a planned show at Monkey Barrel at The Tron.
Updating fans on social media, she wrote, “Thanks to everyone who has shared my Edinburgh Fringe show but unfortunately due to bail conditions I’m barred from Edinburgh for the foreseeable so I won’t be doing my show”.
She then suggested her audience go see “the brilliant Amanda Dwyer” instead, before highlighting a fundraising initiative in support of Gaza and then concluding, “free Palestine”.
