Jennifer Irons skates fluidly through this show and creates an iconic, roll-tastic piece. And the skating isn’t just a metaphor – this performance features an unlikely combination of roller disco and a story of immigration, and surprisingly, it works. The idea is that Irons’ is trying to prove that she’s a ‘welcome’ immigrant by becoming an elite sportswoman, and this journey is conveyed through music sequences, video projections on a giant roller skate, and a David Attenborough cameo, which are all entertaining while still making the important points about immigration. Irons brings dazzle and joy to the proceedings, capably landing jokes and engaging with the audience. The different sections of the show feel too disjointed, though, which somewhat inhibits the flow.
