COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
ARCADE (DARKFIELD)
The latest immersive audio work from DARKFIELD will initially feel familiar to anyone who underwent their previous hit ‘FLIGHT’: once again, you are plunged into absolute darkness. But ‘ARCADE’ is a very different beast. Awakening in a bleak, unknowable place riven by war and despotism, you navigate the narrative using the controls of a 1980s-style arcade machine. It’s best with a group; almost more enjoyable than the experience itself is the post-match analysis, where you discover how vastly different your stories were. While not all of our party enjoyed their ‘ARCADE’ experience, with one person finding theirs frustratingly disempowering, I can personally pay it the highest compliment at a busy Fringe – I want to go again as soon as possible.
Summerhall, until 26 Aug.
