COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Anatomy For Accountants (Java Dance Theatre)
This delightfully unique mix of satire and dance is a somewhat heavy handed examination of the body in an ultra-monetised, growth-oriented world. Sacha Copland, the electric dancer at the centre of the show, is joined by the “accountant” and musician Tristan Carter who attempts to calculate Copland’s monetary value. Right from the start, Copland strips down to nothing and we are all implicated in this rather relentless example of the dehumanised and monetised body. In addition to nudity, Copland makes use of free and frenetic choreography to smartly reveal both the profitability of the animalistically imagined body and the power of dance itself to counter such market-driven characterisations with something more emotional and collective.
Summerhall, until 26 Aug.
