All In (Idle Hive Studios)

Sometimes the best way to say something loudly is to do it quietly. This stripped-back production draws us into a compelling two-hander. It feels like Marianne (Imogen Strachan) and Henry (Daniel Cuckow) are friends of ours with whom we’re in the same room. The thread is off the spool and with each scene we’re given tiny fragments of cotton to piece together this tense thriller. ‘All In’ is a story of once-tender love, shifting power, and destructive addiction. It’s the final reckoning between the two lovers as Henry waits to go into witness protection. The performance stays with you long after the show ends. This is unflinching new writing from the Idle Hive stable. Catch it while you can.

Greenside @ George Street, until 16 Aug.
