Alfie Packham: My Apologies To The Chef

If there was a prize for comedians that utilise well that slightly awkward Fringe moment where stand-ups are obliged to announce themselves from off-stage, Alfie Packham would be on the shortlist. It starts the show on a high, a mood he mainly maintains throughout the hour as he muses on art, school and being a nerd, and on life following the passing of his mum, whose death he discussed in a previous show. The family stuff is generally his strongest material, especially the evolving relationship with his widowed dad. There are some decent call backs and pay offs along the way, and while no chefs appear, there is some fruit, so I’m counting that as the food alluded to by the title.

Underbelly Bristo Square, until 24 Aug.
