A Letter To Lyndon B Johnson Or God: Whoever Reads This First (Xhloe And Natasha)
This is one of a triple-bill from Xhloe and Natasha, a clowning duo brimming with the confidence that three consecutive Fringe First awards will give you. Tight as drums, stepping in sync, here they present the story of Ace and Grasshopper, two boys growing up in Lyndon B Johnson’s America, at that impressionable age when presidents and deities might as well be interchangeable (some people never grow out of this). With vividly realised characters, it’s a story of skinned knees, spit-handshakes and grime behind the ears, underscored by dusty harmonicas and an ominously booming sound design that hints at what’s to come. The narrative moves, like its performers, in perfect lockstep, bringing its strands together for the final, devastating punch.
