A Brief History Of Difference (Das Clarks)

A captivatingly eccentric, non-linear journey through the autobiography of DAR, AKA Denise, AKA Dee, AKA many other names they’ve been given (or chosen) in 50+ years of life. Maximalist decor (vibrant fabric art, eclectic mementos) immerse us in DAR’s world as they talk and dance their way through personal memories offering a perpetually-curious perspective on philosophy, neurodiversity, class, queerness, pigeons, and pop music. Gentle interaction encourages audience-members to try labels, then discard them, in a post-binary exploration of the usefulness of identifiers, while DAR’s distinctive humour and assured spontaneity create a strong sense of connection. To truly fulfil their goal of interrogating the concept of “difference”, this fascinating life-story and ambitious multimedia experiment deserves more space than a Fringe hour.
