COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Nuns! (Dog Complex Theatre)
You will become bewitched by this, I guarantee it. With witches slowly taking over the convent, Gertrude embarks on a partnership with a witch hunter, Yarrow, to get rid of the devilish magic: what follows is an entertaining hour featuring nonsensical absurdity, numerous musical montages, and unexpectedly impressive magic tricks. Though there are zero props on stage, the cast excel at transporting you to different places with quirky character work and by embracing the chaos – there’s plenty of breaking of both character and the fourth-wall – and the level of energy they bring is extraordinary. The humour predominantly lands, but it sometimes felt like the absurd could have been balanced with a bit more wit. Still a devilishly good time.
Assembly George Square, until 31 Aug.
