COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
The Crawl (Alexander Burnett, Ellie Whittaker And Olivia Zerphy)
A stroke of genius, this show: a physical theatre piece depicting contestants who are preparing for what is about to become a very memorable swimming race. There’s a straightforward plotline and a fair amount of audience participation – members compete in races, coach, and more – in an uplifting and humorously creative piece that sees an empty stage transformed into a vast swimming pool in the audience’s imagination. The whole thing is brought to life by the cast’s masterful miming and impeccable stage direction: performers Alexander Burnett and Ellie Whittaker embody their roles to the fullest, whilst the script is fleshed out with humour and heart. It’s marvellous physical theatre that really makes a splash.
Pleasance Dome, until 25 Aug.
