Lesbian Space Crime (Airlock Theatre / Soho Theatre)

Lesbian in space!  Well, that bit is true, as are one or two others. But such is the pace, variety and silliness of this show that it’s hard to separate fact from fiction. A thin layer of truth supports a great deal of fantastic invention. It’s very funny, the laughs coming from many different comic sources; slapstick, high camp, great one-liners and  fine meta snippets, some ad-libbed. Does it have anything to say about the divided loyalties of working motherhood, “Don’t ask. Don’t Tell”, or anything else?  Possibly, but “the show’s the thing”, and this confident, crazy piece is far more carefully crafted than you might guess from my words.  Excellent, and will continue in orbit after the Fringe.

Pleasance Dome, until 25 Aug.
