COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
By A Thread (One Fell Swoop Circus)
Not so much a thread as a chunky 30 metre rope is at the core of this entertaining piece of circus. The rope loops over two pulleys in the ceiling and the seven performers find every which way to make use of it. There’s no doubting the physicality and skills of those involved (as well as their understanding of the laws of physics), but much more than that is on offer. Artistry has equal status with technical skill, and the pace is varied throughout with moments of comedy and camaraderie. The required perfectly timed choreography, adds a sense of both danger and beauty. Showing what can be achieved through trust and connection, this is a great showpiece for contemporary circus.
Assembly Roxy, until 25 Aug.
